Robaer Has Some Of The Most Followed Playlists on Spotify, Here’s Why

Robaer

Aside from producing under the name Robaer and releasing
songs with hundreds of thousands of
plays, Robaer also has one of the most popular Spotify profiles
online. Robaer’s EDM HOUSE 2018 playlist has 410,000 followers,
while even the DEEP HOUSE 2018 playlist has collectively 35,000
followers.

We recently had the chance to sit down with Robaer and talk
about his music productions, Spotifyu playlists, and what’s
next for the DJ and producer.

Robaer Interview With EDM Sauce

So Robert, tell us a little bit of your history and how
you got into music
production
?

In the middle of the 90s I began to interest me for electronic
music and started my career as a DJ. In the first years I
played music in big clubs in my hometown Munich. After a while
I continued DJing in whole Germany, Austria, Switzerland and
Ibzia. In the 2000s it was more and more important to produce
music beside DJing. That’s why I decided to work on my own
music productions. In 2008 I released then my first single.

When did you decide to start your Spotify playlists? At
what point did you notice that they started to really take
off?

In 2012 I decided to start my first Spotify playlist, because I
was absolutely convinced that music streaming belongs the
future. So I took the opportunity to try out Spotify. In 2013
the number of followers of my EDM HOUSE Playlist on Spotify
increased over 1000 followers a day and this fact was not
obviously for me.

Was there anything in particular that you did to
promote them or would you say it was the right place, right
time?

Fortunately it was the the right place for the right time.

What do you typically look for while curating songs for
these playlists?

1.) First I must like the tracks.
2.) The tracks should have a good quality.
3.) They have to fit in the playlist, like the genres,
danceability and energy.

What’s the future to hold for your career? What’s
next?

In January 2018 will be out my next single on Knightvision
Records (Warner Music) and maybe in the middle of the year a
little DJ tour through the USA is planned. Many more is in the
pipeline and will follow.

Monstercat announces split into two imprints: Instinct and Uncaged

Canadian label Monstercat has started 2018 off with a bold
step in a new direction.

After seeing exponential growth in 2017 encompassing a broad
spectrum of music, the 2017 DA Label of the Year has
announced a massive change in the label to cater to its wide
fan base.

Going forward, the label will be split into two imprints
— Instinct and Uncaged — to represent the music

“pop-infused faction of music” under the Monstercat name, while
Uncaged will represent the “heavy-hitting and bass-fueled side”
of the label.

The Monstercat team also announced that Owl
City
and Didrick will be releasing under the
Instinct brand in 2018, and Gent & Jawns and Darren Styles will be joining the Uncaged side
this year. 2018 will also see releases from Pegboard Nerds, Modestep, Stephen and Conro.

How Houston’s Day For Night festival served as a sound intersection of curatorial excellence

Houston, Texas’ Day
For Night
festival has established itself as an
unconventional, hyper-sensory utopia. Bolstering an exemplary
menu of avant-garde talent, the festival satiates
thousands all while blurring the boundaries of performance
and offering the utmost in aural phenomena in its
industrial warehouse setting.

Day For Night prided itself on its snapshot booking in its
third year, by and for the experimentally-inclined. Enlisting
artists like Nina Kraviz,
Kaytranada,
Justice,
Jlin, Jamie xx, Mount Kimbie, Solange, REZZNine Inch
Nails
Tyler, the
Creator
, and Thom Yorke,
among others, the gathering has situated itself as an
unorthodox standout from an at times mundane, and largely
counterfeit American festival circuit.

Dillon Francis wipes all but two posts from Instagram, teases upcoming Latin album

Earlier in December, Dillon Francis took to Twitter to let fans know
that he was wrapping up production on his upcoming 2018 album.

Now to kick off the New Year, he’s teased the album further by
wiping his Instagram account of all but two posts,
each including Francis alongside various Latin artists.
Followers should already be aware that this new album will be
entirely in Spanish, as he has been
traveling around Latin America to places like the Dominican
Republic (to work with Dominican rapper Fuego) and focused the majority of his music
toward the tail-end of 2017 on the Latin genre (Spanish version
of “Say Less” and a “Mi Gente” remix).

Check out the two posts below, featuring a video of Francis
hanging in the studio with Mexico-native Toy Selectah,
Reggaeton singer/songwriter De La Ghetto and Spanish musician
El Guincho, as well as a photo with Puerto Rican artist
Arcangel. Expect to see those names and
further updates on the album shortly.

See r/EDM’s highest voted electronic songs and albums of 2017 [full list]

The people of r/EDM have spoken.

As streaming platforms like Spotify compile end of year playlists comprised of
the year’s most popular dance tunes, so too does Reddit‘s electronically focused r/EDM subreddit.
The subreddit has produced a list of 2017’s “Highest Rated”
songs, albums and EPs, and throwback posts, using user
submitted Reddit ‘up-votes’ to calculate the year’s crowd
favorites.

The democratic approach sees Reddit visitors elect The Chainsmokers & Coldplay‘s “Something Just Like This” as the
highest rated song of the year with 497 votes. The full list
features a total of 30 tracks, with Skrillex‘s remix of “Humble” registering in second place with
443 votes, and Illenium‘s “The Sound of Walking Away”
weighing in at third with 373 points. Kygo, Martin Garrix, Marshmello, and ODESZA likewise rank,
speaking to a resurgence of preference for mainstream releases
among voting Reddit users. Porter Robinson‘s opaque Virtual Self alias charts twice on the highest
rated list for “Eon Break” [303 points] and “Ghost Voices” [245
points], reflecting a general fondness of the DJ’s new pet
project. Virtual Self’s eponymous EP is duly noteworthy
for its placement as fourth on the subreddit’s
grouping of the highest rated albums and EPs.

Reddit voters exhibit a collective inclination towards ODESZA‘s A Moment Apart, the platform’s top
voted album of a total of ten albums/EPs with 561 points.
Avicii’s Avīci EP receives the second
most votes at 528, while Illenium’s sophomore album attracts
the third most, earning 441 for Awake. Kaskade‘s debut seasonal album, Kaskade Christmas also emerged as
a highly celebrated release, securing the eighth spot on the
list.

r/EDM’s Highest Rated Throwback Posts category is as selective,
as the subreddit’s Highest Rated Albums/EPs section, made up of
only ten tracks. A testament to the memorable quality of Porter
Robinson’s original productions, “Language” sits at the top of
the list, likely gaining newfound popularity in the wake of
Robinson’s foundation of Virtual Self. Skrillex’s Scary
Monsters & Nice Sprites
EP claims the succeeding
position, while Justice‘s “Cross” follows.

The publication of the subreddit’s statistics has elicited a
variety of responses from r/EDM users, with some finding the
results to be an “expected” but paltry reflection of the year’s
most widely acclaimed electronic releases, whereas others
alternatively identify the lists as those that are accurate in
their identification of listeners’ dance preferences this year.
While the findings are indicative only of the listening trends
of those that voted, the charts denote just where voters’ fan
favorites were concentrated, with the utmost transparency
nonetheless.

See the full list of r/EDM statistics here.

Thom Yorke still hates Spotify

Radiohead frontman and rock experimentalist
Thom Yorke has been a long time critic of
Spotify, so many were taken aback when Radiohead’s
entire discography arrived on the platform last year,
with Yorke’s solo catalogue quick to follow in December
2017. Considering the rock auteur’s decision to permit
Radiohead’s music on Spotify, fans were a bit shocked when
Yorke cosigned a tweet from Portishead’s Geoff Barrow
lambasting the streaming service’s supposedly unfair
compensation rates for musicians.

“Ok quick question for musicians… How many of you have
personally made more than £500 from Spotify?” inquired Barrow
in the tweet, to which Yorke outlinked “i refer you, ladies and
gentlemen, to the comments below …. without further comment.”

Billboard reports that digital streaming
revenue accounts for $2.5 billion, more than
62 percent of the entire industry value. Despite this,
artists like Yorke have still been extremely with complaints
regarding streaming service’s payouts to artists.

Getter reveals personal insight about dealing with depression

At the risk of being romanticized, depression is often
cited by musicians as a source of major inspiration. Yesterday,
Getter shared some personal insight regarding
his experience with mental illness and how, in some
instances, it can inspire emotive pieces of art.

The producer and DJ also noted that he “made some of the most
beautiful songs to help me cope a few months ago,” continuing
by noting that “[when] i’m sad i listen to them and they remind
me that there is a way out.” Getter’s personal insight is
likely welcomed with open arms from the bass music community,
and serves as a reminder that dealing with depression is a
constant struggle.

Valentino Khan wants you to break off a piece of that booty in brand new Kit Kat ad

Late last year, Kit Kat got everyone’s attention with a
charmingly cheeky Chance
the (W)Ra(p)per
commercial starring the America’s favorite
sweetheart rhymer. Now following up in 2017, Kit Kat has
recruited Mad Decent‘s Valentino (Kit) Khan for a new
electronic-inspired “remix” of the brand’s iconic jingle from
1986, cramming Khan’s signature blend of bouncy,
hunkered-down-low house-meets-trap into a 30-second mini cut.
Following the proven recipe for success on hits like “Pump,”
Bullseye,”
and “Deep

DJ tools of the last few years, Valentino Khan injects Kit Kat’s promotional

Dancing Astronaut celebrates the top five electronic tours of 2017

Zedd – Echo Tour

by Rachel Narozniak

2017 would prove to be a career defining year for Zedd, the
producer dethroning his 2012 Foxes feature, “Clarity,” as his most recognizable
single via the release of “Stay,”
a track that would not only earn Zedd his second double
platinum certification plaque, but a VMA for Best Dance Video,
and a Grammy nomination to boot. Departing with his highly
celebrated single and Grey in tow, Zedd hit the road on his 12-date
North American Echo Tour.

Zedd

A masterpiece of modern electronic production, the Echo Tour
proved to be an intricately designed venture both highly
stylized and deeply experiential in nature. Reflective of
Zedd’s self professed desire to engage a multitude of “…senses
that come together into one experience,” the Echo Tour appealed
to sight, sound, feel, and touch via visuals, color and
lighting, lasers, smoke, and of course, Zedd’s musical library.
Far from hesitant to lay claim to the choreographed quality of
his shows, Zedd acknowledges “Every song that I’ve ever played
has a specific visual that goes with the song,” but the
pre-show preparation extended beyond just that—the producer
also matched specific lighting and color effects to each
song, rehearsing the ensembles prior to the tour’s debut. The
effects that characterize the Echo Tour’s
individual shows, however, are produced live, projected to
the crowd in real time despite the tour’s various pre-debut run
throughs.

Echo Tour

An exposition of Zedd’s progression as artist, performer, and
production strategist, the Echo Tour contained a message that
was reiterated on each show date. Those that identified Zedd as
an ‘artist to watch’ back in his earliest days had their
fingers firmly planted on the pulse of dance music’s future, a
rhythm that has beat with increasing intensity given Zedd’s
continued ascendance to electronic acclaim.

deadmau5– lots of shows in a row
tour

by Rachel Vensand

Mastermind of progressive house and music industry satire,
Joel Zimmerman brought his ‘lots of shows
in a row’ tour to an international audience in 2017. Kicking
off at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom in March, the tour
made noteworthy stops at large scale festivals and venues alike
including Mysteryland, Creamfields, Red Rocks
Amphitheater, Shrine Auditorium, Tomorrowland and
Hï Ibiza.

The crown jewel of deadmau5’s recent tour was the new and
improved Cube 2.1, which boasted state-of-the-art LED screens
and crystal clear, new graphics for an unparalleled visual
experience. Standing at 15 feet tall and 16 feet wide, the
behemoth showed comedic images of dancing cows, wonky-eyed
mice, and even a tribute to the video game Rocket League among
other visuals during deadmau5’s sets.

Rezz– Mass Manipulation Tour

by Rachel Vensand

Isabelle Rezazadeh’s unique breed of dark, bass-driven techno
separates REZZ from her contemporaries, and her
recent Mass Manipulation tour followed suit. The 22 year old
“Space Mom” took her debut album worldwide in 2017, enlisting a
star-studded roster of support from Blackgummy, Bleep Bloop, Crywolf, Drezo, Dr. Fresch, Electric Mantis, Eprom, Haywyre, k?d,
No Mana, and more.

Rezz

Rezz

Hypnotic tracks like “Relax” and “Premonition” were brought to
life with hauntingly psychedelic visuals, tied together by
REZZ’s signature LED goggles. Mass Manipulation was indeed
achieved across the Mau5trap supported tour, which made notable
stops at Ultra Japan, Electric Zoo, EDC Orlando, Something
Wicked among others. After selling out numerous locations along
the way, it’s no wonder REZZ was recently named Billboard Dance’s “Breakout Artist of the
Year.”

ODESZA– A Moment Apart Tour

by Ryan Castillo

ODESZA

ODESZA’s critically acclaimed A Moment Apart journey
has seen the group move between sold out stadium-sized
arenas all over the country, with Sofi Tukker and Chet Porter in tow as openers. Since its
inception in Spring, the ever-evolving A Moment Apart set
has morphed slowly over time to include new songs from the
album, live edits with a full drum line, and many unreleased
surprises along the way. On a given night, it takes a team of
60 people all working relentlessly behind the scenes to put on
a show of this scale.

That the tour necessitates many helping hands is hardly a
surprise given the many components it’s comprised of. Among
their rotating cast of live instrumentalists, ODESZA play along
trombonists, trumpeters, guitarists, and a choreographed drum
line. The sonic elements combine with lighting
looks ranging from moody hues to glittering whites flank
lasers, pyrotechnics, and smoke as the special effects that
work in tandem to create the tour’s ethereal aesthetic.

will appear on The A Moment Apart Tour on a white board with

Beyond the music, the standout feature of the tour is the
stunning visual production, headed up by Saxton Waller, former
lighting designer to STS9. With all that ODESZA has been able to
accomplish this year creatively, it’s no wonder they are
rumored to appear high on Coachella’s 2018 lineup

Richie Hawtin– Close Tour

by John Flynn

Over his storied career, Richie Hawtin has become an
influential part of Detroit techno’s most revered
proponents. With a deep back catalog of accomplished releases
under his belt and a reputation for crafting fabled live sets
extempore, Hawtin has deservedly solidified his status as a
global force in the genre.

Richie Hawtin’s Close tour existed at the intersection
of anthropomorphic spontaneity and robotic absorption.
Utilizing vantage point cameras from a multitude of angles and
a plethora of live instrumentation devices including computers,
mixers, and drum machines, Hawtin was able to create a
fleeting, mercurial audio/visual experience in which audiences
could watch — and of course listen to — momentum build in real
time.

CLOSE

The 75-minute live audio-visual shows under the
Close umbrella are expressive of what Hawtin terms his
“very unique way of playing,” an approach that sees every
movement that he makes captured by the live-feed cameras and
projected to the audience in real-time. The absence of a table
to support Hawtin’s mixers lends an additional unusual element
to the Close shows, exposing Hawtin’s entire body and in
turn, permitting the audience to visually follow each step
of Hawtin’s musical execution.

“The very simple act of moving that table away—which is quite
strange for a DJ because you’re completely open and naked to
the audience—is probably the most important decision we made,”
Hawtin says of the alteration. “Without that decision, there
wouldn’t be the show. You have to see that human form moving
and gyrating.”

The Close tour made its debut at Coachella in Indio, and made
stops at Movement Festival, Melt, Primavera Sound, Pukkelpop,
and Creamfields, among other banner venues.

certainly compelling.

Scientists to observe interstellar asteroid for signs of extraterrestrial life

About three months ago, scientists observed the entry of a
peculiar interstellar asteroid into our solar system. The
cigar-shaped object, which has since been named ‘Oumuamua —
Hawaiian for “messenger” — will be probed for signs of
extraterrestrial life over the coming weeks, using the Green
Bank telescope in West Virginia.

The observation process will be carried out under the banner of
the revolutionary Breakthrough Listen project. The plan is for the
initiative, which has already detected fast radio signal bursts from a distant universe,
to ping radio waves off the object and determine if there is
any sort of extraterrestrial technology on ‘Oumuamua — no
word yet on whether Earth’s resident space mom REZZ
was contacted to provide offerings of beats. The observation
process shall be carried out over four common bandwidth ranges
for a period of 10 hours. The initial observation process will
begin on December 13, 2017.

In the words of project advisor Avi Loeb, “Most likely it is of
natural origin, but because it is so peculiar, we would like to
check if it has any sign of artificial origin, such as radio
emissions. If we do detect a signal that appears artificial in
origin, we’ll know immediately.”

Zedd invites bullying victim on an all expenses paid trip to one of his shows

Industry sweetheart Zedd has extended an all inclusive invitation to
bullying victim, Keaton Jones. Jones caught the Internet’s
attention after his mother uploaded a brief video of Jones
tearfully describing the bullying that he has been subjected to
at school. Although heart wrenching, Jones’ statement is a
courageous step against bullying that many celebrities and
public figures have since reacted to, expressing their support

Zedd is the latest to respond to the video, taking to Twitter
to formally invite Jones to be a guest at a Zedd branded show
of his choice, kindly offering to cover the costs of Jones’
flights to and from the performance, as well as his
accommodation expenses. “Big up for speaking up, buddy!!!” Zedd
tweeted, applauding Jones’ bravery.

This coming year’s selects include The Black Madonna, Artwork, James Blake, Mura Masa, TQD (Royal-T, DJ Q and Flava D),
Jubilee, Bradley Zero, and TOKiMONSTA.

The expansive array of artists is a major move for BBC as its
selects certainly coincide with the changing tides of dance
music, both underground and mainstream. Each artist will

This Berlin-based artist makes LEGO turntables and synthesizers

Australian graphic and web designer Arran Hearn was addicted to
building LEGOs in his early childhood, and so it was with this
passion in mind that he opened the doors at innovative
Berlin-based company called Numode. Hearn’s venture creates
custom LEGO kits in an effort to merge his passions for
hip-hop, active turntablism, and the venerable building blocks.

Numode creates miniature replicas of the classic Technics
SL1200 turntable and mixer, as well as the Roland TR-808,
TB-303, MPC-2000XL and Akai MPC.

And while Numode is not yet an official LEGO partner and is
designed by Hearn himself, we surely admire the attention to
detail. For each set comes completes with a color-printed
instruction booklet and custom-made, grooved discs that
certainly mimic the best look and feel of vinyl on
the most similar small-scale possible.

Rinzen embarks on ‘The Return’ to the Forbidden City

The Forbidden City beckons; for its mysterious
nature is hard to shake from the psyche. In “The Return,”
Rinzen brings us right back to the universe created in his
debut mau5trap in the most avant-garde of
fashions.

Where Forbidden City charts the adventure of a hero’s
journey through a secret, hidden realm, “The Return” offers a
deeper exploration of the saga that transpired beforehand. It
takes on a more analog form, utilizing a heady breaks canvas
that locks listeners into the record while catalyzing
goosebumps with a powerful, cinematic breakdown that envelops
themes visited in the first exploration of Forbidden
City
. If there’s one skill Rinzen has demonstrated
tenfold, it’s his ability to transport the mind into completely
different dimensions.

“The Return” lands on mau5trap’s We Are Friends, Vol.
7
— a full circle of sorts for the exploding LA talent.
His debut on deadmau5‘ imprint, “Renegade,”
was part of the 5th edition of the beloved compilation
series.

Speculation abounds Virtual Self will live stream debut performance

The mystery that surrounds Porter Robinson‘s new moniker continues as we
head into his debut performance as Virtual Self on December 8 in Brooklyn. With the
release of the Virtual Self EP, Robinson
introduced a few of the “virtual selves” who helped to create
the compilation. The first is Technic-angel, who created “EON Break” and the second is
Path
Selector
, who created “Ghost Voices.” The different selves fit
into what fans do know about this project — that it
is purportedly accompanied by a virtual reality component.

Yesterday, Virtual Self tweeted a link, and
rumor has it that Robinson will live stream the performance via
the website.

Interestingly, Robinson took to his personal Twitter account to
announce the opening acts and set times for the performance.

While little is known about both artists, Robinson writes “if
you like Virtual Self, both of these artists REALLY deserve
your attention. the DV-i “Research + Development” EP is mind
bendingly good. RAITO has mastered the ravey breaks vibe but
brought it into 2017. just listen to both and you’ll definitely
get it.”

There are certainly still a plethora of questions fans have
about Virtual Self, however only answers are to come with
Robinson’s debut performance tomorrow.

150+ artists sign petition in support of net neutrality protests

More than 150 artists, actors, and musicians have penned a
letter endorsing the hundreds of protests set to take place
today at cell service providers and congressional offices
nationwide.

Tom Morello, Incubus, Evangeline Lilly, Bassnectar, Against Me!, Alyssa Milano, Michael
Stipe (REM), Wil Wheaton, Talib Kweli, Gramatik, Graham Nash, The Glitch Mob, Downtown Boys, Speedy Ortiz,
STS9, and Anti-Flag are among the
letters signatories, which includes artists from nearly
every genre and artistic medium.

“We support the people from across the political spectrum
protesting across the country on December 7,” reads the
letter, “and we echo their call for our
members of Congress to do their jobs and take action to stop
the FCC vote that’s planned for December 14.”

Net neutrality is the principle that internet
service providers should not be allowed to selectively speed up
or slow down internet services in exchange for monetary
compensation.

IMS Ibiza will examine health, wellness, and sexual harassment for 11th rendition

The International Music Summit will be returning
to the dance music capital of the world, Ibiza, for the
eleventh rendition of the three-day educational and
motivational thought-leadership forum. Industry leaders and
artists from the international electronic music sector, come
together every year to throw a spotlight onto the complex
challenges and emerging opportunities in today’s ever-evolving
industry. This year, IMS Ibiza examines health and
wellness for the mind and body, along with alleged sexual
harassment within the industry.

The mental well being of DJs, a long ignored problem that is
sadly troubling a high proportion of artists, will be one of
the health and wellness panels at the event. This frank and
open mental health discussion will be hosted by the Association
for Electronic Music and will give vital advice on how to stay
sane and remain successful. Continuing the focus of
wellness into the summit, IMS delegates will benefit from daily
yoga and meditation sessions, reminding all of the importance
of balance and self care.

IMS Ibiza

Another section of the event, “Sexual Harassment in DJ
Culture,” will discuss how harassment is a real and unwelcome
problem. SHE SAID.SO, an influential
network of women in the industry, will chair a talk
intended to assess the impact of the issue
specifically within electronic music. With a goal to
detect the root of the causes, the talk will also aim to reduce
its existence within the industry with a series of actionable
recommendations.

IMS has often been regarded as the premier global platform
for business, culture and education within the electronic music
industry, so it is encouraging to see the Summit focusing in
on issues as pervasive and problematic as wellness and
sexual harassment. IMS is set to take place from May 23-25,
2018, and new for 2018 is a three-day Wellness retreat, taking
place before the main IMS summit at a soon-to-be-revealed
location.

The Creative Footprint establishes initiative to curb gentrification

The
Creative Footprint
wants to help curb the effects of
gentrification in New York City. The group’s new initiative is
called NightCamp NYC — a two-day intensive workshop series
which brings together promoters, venue owners, stakeholders,
government representatives and global nightlife experts.

“Following the successful repeal of the city’s
institutionally racist Cabaret Law
and the announcement of
a new
Office of Nightlife
, New York City is entering an exciting
period of activism after dark,”
The Creative
Footprint said in an statement. “The Creative Footprint brings
15+ years of experience from two of the world’s foremost
nightlife experts to the city’s vibrant movement, and will arm
the scene with necessary data to better protect itself.”

The group is seeking investors via Kickstarter in order to procure data,
host the conference, and present the data to attendees.

“It’s very rare that creative scenes have enough data to
support their arguments when it comes to gentrification,” says
the group’s founder Lutz Leichsenring, a Berlin based
venue owner and  spokesperson for the 220-member Club
Commission since 2009. “The Creative Footprint is a way for us
to work with communities to gather their data and hold
governments and developers accountable for how they affect
their scenes.”

The Creative Footprint hopes to raise $35,000 over the
next month and a half.

James Murphy played The Stooges in a techno club and ‘almost got murdered’

Before James Murphy pioneered the seminal
dance-punk band LCD Soundsystem, he was a DJ. Surely, with this
job comes the ability to read the room — at least that’s the
goal.

In a new episode of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich’s Beats 1 Radio show, Murphy discussed one
particular instance where this just simply wasn’t the case,
perhaps offering some insight into his eventual label and band
switch.

Looking back on the evening, he said, “I was DJ’ing what was
kinda like a techno house club, and I was really high. I was
dancing around, like, ‘Man, if someone would play ‘Loose’ by
the Stooges right now everyone would go crazy.”

“I got up and the first record that I put on at 3 o‘clock in
the morning in a place filled with people on drugs that are
there to hear techno was ‘Loose.’ And a guy was trying to climb
into the DJ booth to kill me, and I was like ‘No, just listen
to it, man. It’s amazing!’”

And while it’s likely James Murphy exaggerated his
proximity to death, it’s for certain he made the right choice
in not pursuing techno as a full-time gig.
