People have been confusing the FCC chairman with an Indian DJ named Ajit Pai

Yesterday, the Federal Communications Commission voted to
repeal net neutrality in a 3-2 vote led by chairman Ajit Pai.
People were understandably upset and sought to give Pai a piece
of their minds on social media, unfortunately catching an
innocent Indian DJ of the same name in the crossfire.

Ajit Pai (the DJ) is a Goa-based artist who shares nothing with
the FCC chairman besides his name. Unfortunately, several
headhunters found his Instagram and began to comment their
thoughts and pleas about net neutrality. Some were less kind,
leaving insults about the wrong Ajit Pai on his account.

The DJ seems to have taken the misled attacks with stride,
politely commenting back to his page’s visitors explaining that
he, actually, is fully in support of net neutrality and is the
wrong target. One commenter summed up the confusion pretty
well: “This is the Ajit Pai we deserve.”

Five pristine copies of Prince’s rarest and “most expensive album of all time” have been found

Back in 1987, late icon Prince was preparing to release his
16th studio album dubbed ‘The Black Album’ thanks to its
nondescript, entirely black sleeve. However, just ahead of its
intended release date, the singer experienced a “spiritual
epiphany” that led him to believe that the album was evil. He
immediately stalled the release, recalled all 500,000 copies
and demanded that they were destroyed. Later on, the label was
allowed to sell the album on CD and cassette, but never again
on vinyl, making it one of the most coveted rare waxes to date.

What remained were some 100 promotional copies in Europe and a
handful in the United States made with no printed title, artist
name, production credits or photography. Following Prince’s death last year, an original promo
copy sold for a whopping $15,000, giving it the title as the
most expensive record to be sold on Discogs.

To many Prince fans’ delight, five pristine copies of the
promotional ‘Black Album’ have resurfaced thanks to a former
Warner Bros. Records employee, who discovered the treasures
after hunting through boxes in his closet at the request of his
daughter, who had recently purchased her first record player.
Left untouched for 25 years, the man has sent three of the
copies out for sale and retained two, one of which he is
contemplating selling later on as well.

All three copies of ‘The Black Album’ have already sold, two
for $15,000 and the third for $20,000.

Baauer issues a takedown against FCC chairman Ajit Pai for use of ‘Harlem Shake’

The Internet has been ablaze across the past few weeks with
concern about the Federal Communications Commission’s choice to
repeal net neutrality in the United States. Chairman of the FCC
Ajit Pai, one of the individuals behind the motion to repeal
the widely appreciated net neutrality law, recently released a
video attempting explain his anti-net neutrality stance on
The Daily Caller and ended the short with a segment
soundtracked by Baauer’s viral hit ‘Harlem Shake’.

The cringe-worthy attempt to reach Millennials by using the
2013 track and phenomenon caught the attention of the producer,
who immediately voiced his opposition to his song being used
for Pai’s agenda. “I’m taking action,” he responded to a Tweet
bringing the video to his attention. “Whatever I can do to stop
this loser.”

Lil Peep Posthumous Album Confirmed By Producer

An artist’s legacy is sometimes, if not often, stronger after
they’ve passed away. In the case of Lil Peep,
his death caught the attention of hundreds of thousands and
likely introduced many new people to his music. Now, his
producer and friend Smokeasac has
confirmed that a posthumous album exists.

In a series of tweets, Smokeasac reveals that Come
Over When You’re Sober Pt 2
exists – “it will come out
when the time is right, when Peep’s family approves,” he says.
“Just know it exists. Be patient for Gus.”

Every Song On Soundcloud’s Top 50 Is By A Rapper

Soundcloud belongs to the rappers now.

The streaming platform, which was once dominated by EDM, has
now given way almost completely to rappers as EDM artists flee
en masse to services like Spotify and Apple Music. As of this
week, 50 of the top 50 tracks on
are by rappers. And not small ones, either –
established names like Post Malone, XXXtentacion, Lil
Pump, Migos, Lil Uzi Vert, Logic
, and Cardi
are dominating the list. (But no Kendrick.)

What does this mean for EDM? Not much. The question should be:
what does this say about Soundcloud and streaming? Is rap now
keeping the service alive? Are we looking at a legitimate
changing of the guard situation here? Perhaps the streaming
climate has just changed that much.

Compare this to Spotify where out of the ten most streamed
songs on the platform, four are EDM.

Take a look at this week’s Top 50 on Soundcloud below.

Melbourne is getting a new 5000-capacity event space

New 5000-capacity event space ‘B3’ will be unveiled in
Melbourne next year.

Promoter Novel has kept details scarce in its first
announcement, only hinting the basement-car-park-look space was
close to the city centre, and offering a glimpse at its
potential through a short teaser video.

Novel director Daniel Teuma said: “One aspect sorely lacking in
Melbourne’s nightlife is an inner-city location suitable for
large-scale, indoor events. We are extremely confident that we
have found the right venue to fill that gap.”

“To ensure each occasion is truly special, B3 will only host
three events per year and feature artists who have transcended
their respective niches to become full-blown scene icons.”

The venue’s sound will be provided by Full Throttle, the team
responsible for overseeing sound at Australian festivals
Rainbow Serpent, Subsonic, Let Them Eat Cake, Strawberry Field
and Pitch Music & Arts.

Lighting and installations will be overseen by Colourblind and
John Fish.

Australian rave tricks council into thinking it was an engagement party

Organisers of a rave in the Australian bush tricked the local
council into thinking they were throwing a big engagement party
to avoid the necessary permit process.

Hit FM reports Campaspe Shire officers
visited the site on Friday to find “up to 50 cars parked in the
paddock with tents and loud music being played”, but were told
it was a private event and guests hadn’t had to pay for their

According to the council’s website, a permit is needed if an
event is being held on a site larger than 500sq m and is
enclosed or has an admission fee.

The event, named Wild Horses, was not advertised publically and
tickets and details were distributed from a private social
media page, according to the report.

One neighbour has claimed organisers offered to pay for
alternate accommodation for him and his family while the
festival took place over the weekend, near the small town of
Colbinabbin, about two hours north of Melbourne.

The rural council has now conceded it made a mistake and “will
decide on an appropriate course of action” once an
investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, we’re waiting for an invite to the wedding.

Billboard Names The Top Albums of 2017

Everyone has their opinion on album of the year — but according
to the official Billboard 200 Chart — it’s Kendrick
, DAMN. It’s the first rap album to
reign since 50 Cent’s The Massacre back in 2005.

With an indisputably well done and well received hit like
“Humble,” DAMN. was destined to make an impact. The
track took the music world by storm — making its way from the
mainstream into the electronic scene with a massive remix from
Skrillex, and flips from everyone who is anyone. And as every
song off the album played out as strongly as the next, Kendrick
made a true mark on music history.

Combing through the Billboard’s top albums list for electronic
artists, it’s looking a little sparse. The Chainsmokers
come in at the 21 spot for Memories… Do Not Open and
again at 30 for their Collage EP. Calvin Harris
also represents EDM with his Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 at
93, which is also up for our Your EDM Awards album of 2017!

Apple releases statement confirming acquisition of Shazam and “exciting plans”

Today both Apple and Shazam have made statements to confirm the
deal announced last week that Apple would be buying Shazam.

First reported by TechCruch, the
deal was said to be fore $400 million or more, although no
exact number has been confirmed at this time. Now The Verge has revealed statements from
both companies expressing that the deal is being made.

“We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be
joining Apple,” said an Apple spokesperson. “Apple Music and

and delivering great music experiences to our users. We have

Nightclub Staff Being Trained On How To Help Prevent Sexual Violence

Nightclub staff members across Europe are being trained on how
to deal with sexual violence, and it’s about time.

The project, headed up by The Addictology Clinic in Prague
and supported by European Commission is set to include
nightclubs across the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain.
Prevention measures will be the instructors’ focus during the
first stage of training. According to Mixmag, results from
the first round are expected as soon as March 2019.

Hana Fidesova of the Addictology Clinic explains the importance
of this type of training: “The environment of night
entertainment is a place in which sexual violence often occurs.
The highly sexualised environment and influence of alcohol or
other addictive substances contributes to this.”

Recently, Czech Republic’s Interior Ministry made sexual
violence a security strategy measure, and stressed the
importance of helping fight against sexual harassment and
abuse. This project comes as a way to combat sexual violence.

Earthcore company set to be wound up after mass cancellations

The company that runs Australian festival Earthcore is set to
be wound up following
mass cancellations at this year’s string of events

The Herald Sun reports documents were
lodged with the Australian Investments and Strategies
Commission on December 4 to wind up Yellow Sunshine Pty Ltd, of
which Earthcore founder Spiro Boursinos is the sole director,
just days after the camping festival finished up.

one-day events were cancelled
and 32 artists booked did not
appear at the main festival at Elmore, Victoria, according to
the article.

The process of ‘winding up’ a business includes selling all of
its assets, paying off creditors, distributing any remaining
assets to the partners or shareholders and then dissolving the
business, according to Investopedia.

Mr Boursinos has been involved in a series of other companies
which have been deregistered, including Earthcore Productions
in 2002 and Good Trix Pty Ltd in 2008, of which he was a
director, the Herald Sun report states.

Prominent artists including Coming Soon and Nick Curly posted
to social media saying they were not playing the festival
because they had not been paid and flights had not been booked.

Camila Cabello Shares What It Was Really Like Working With Diplo

Camila Cabello is an unstoppable force in pop
music, but she didn’t always have the confidence as an artist
she has today — especially working with big time names like

In a recent sit down with MTV UK, the “Havana”
singer talked about the very first time she worked with one of
EDM’s most in-demand producers:

“The first time that we [Camila and Diplo] had a writing
session together I was so nervous that I got acid reflux,” she
said. “Emotionally, I don’t know why, I’m just a very
visceral person. I can just feel it in my body so it was just
like that for the first few months.”

You can hardly hear her nerves in the track with Major Lazer,
“Know No Better” also featuring Travis Scott and Quavo. The
song premiered just in time to be a summer anthem, along with
the rest of the electronic group’s Know No Better EP.

Diplo once told Billboard Dance, “We
made like 20 songs with Camila Cabello. We love her.”

Let’s hope more of their tracks together come to light!

Apple reportedly set to acquire Shazam for $400 million

Multinational technology company Apple is reportedly close to a
deal to acquire the popular music identification app Shazam for
$400 million, according to TechCrunch.

According to sources, the nine-figure sale price could be more

be $1.02 billion.

Neither Shazam or Apple have commented on the sale, but the

Trippy Turtle Announces Final Tour Dates Before Crawling Back Into His Shell Forever

Sources: Apple To Acquire Shazam

Per Tech Crunch, software giant Apple may be
looking to acquire Shazam, the
ridiculously useful app that allows you to hold your phone at
an audio clip from any song, movie, ad, or TV show and figure
out where it’s from. The application passed the 1 billion
download mark last September.

The deal is supposedly done with an announcement set for next
Monday. Sources have put the fee at around $400 million USD
which is lower than the $1.02 billion post-money valuation the
company based their last funding round in 2015 off
of. WSJ also noted that Shazam sends over 1
million clicks a day to Apple’s music streaming platform
competitors Spotify and Google Play Music.

Shazam has also found money hard to come by in recent years.
Earlier in September, they reported $54 million in revenue from
fiscal 2016 with a loss of $5.3 million pre-tax. The company
also lost approximately $22 million the year before that.

Both companies have yet to comment on the supposed merger at
this point in time.

Depending on who you choose to keep company with, there’s a
good chance that you’ve seen your friends posting more about
cryptocurrency in the past couple weeks. After Bitcoin breached
the $10,000 mark, public interest in these currencies has
skyrocketed even higher than it was before.

With (likely) dozens of “coins” out there for you to invest in,
the subject can seem daunting. 3LAU made a beginner’s guide to
cryptocurrency which you can read here.

One of those currencies is called “Monero,” a
currency that is specifically privacy-focused, according to
Crypto Coins News. While most coins are traded, sold,
and bought within discrete wallets and exchanges, etc., Monero
has gone a step further and opened up its own
marketplace: Project Coral Reef. The
crypto-coin is abbreviated XMR.

While such a brazen move might normally be seen as foolhardy,
the project has the support of over 35 A-List celebrities and
artists who will sell their merchandise on the platform,
including G-Eazy and Mariah

“As cryptocurrencies become more popular, it’s important that
my fans have choices when it comes to how they buy my songs and
merchandise,” said G-Eazy in a statement. “Given Monero is one
of the safest, most secure and most private cryptocurrencies,
it’s one of the best options for my fans this holiday season.”

playing and producing techno to house music,” he says of the

“Like so many other clubbers I got totally infected with the
filter disco French house vibe … it was that time in my life
that I had in mind when I worked on ‘I’m Loving It’.”

follows a remix of Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘From Me To You’ from
Superlover on the Australian label family.
